ABSENTEE REQUEST PROCEDURES

Any North Carolina Voter can request an absentee ballot.

How to request an absentee ballot if:
 
 You are a registered NC voter

1. Send a written request to the Stokes County Board of Elections no later than the last Tuesday (5:00 PM) before the election.
2. The request should include a statement (i.e., ‘Please send me a ballot for the 2012 General election’), your name, residence address, date of birth, signature, phone number, and address where you would like the ballots mailed if different from your registration address.
3. A verifiable legal guardian or near relative* may also request an absentee ballot  using the same format as shown above, with the addition of including relationship to the voter and the near relative’s contact information.

The request must be written entirely by the requester.

Any registered North Carolina Voter may choose to vote in person using One-Stop Absentee Voting which begins the third Thursday before the election and ends the Saturday prior to the election. For more information regarding One Stop Absentee Voting contact our office.

*A near relative is a: spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent, or stepchild.

UOCAVA CITIZENS

 

UOCAVA citizens are members of the following groups:

o Member of the uniformed services or merchant marine on active duty, or an eligible spouse or dependent.

o U. S. citizen residing outside the U. S.

 

How to request an absentee ballot if:

 

 You are a member of the uniformed services or merchant marine on active duty, or an eligible spouse or dependent.

1. Complete the Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) available from the Voting Assistance Officer assigned to your military installation or,

2. From the Federal Voting Assistance website www.fvap.gov where you can download instructions and a copy of the FPCA form.

3. Upon completion of the application, mail, fax, or email it to our office.

4. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail or fax for any election is the day prior to Election Day.

 

Ballots can be faxed to a number you provide on the FPCA form. To request and receive faxed ballots, transmit the completed FPCA form to the NC State Board of Elections by mail or fax. Their secure line is 919-715-0351.

 You are a U. S. citizen residing outside of the U. S.

 

1. Complete the Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) available at the Federal Voting Assistance Program website (www.fvap.gov).

2. Mail, email, or fax the completed form to the Stokes County Board of Elections.

3. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by mail or fax for any election is the day prior to Election Day.
