Communicable Disease Prevention & Treatment: Here at The Stokes Family

Health Center, we are committed to prevention of communicable disease.

All clients are screened for symptoms of common communicable diseases and

education about healthy, safe living practices is a component of all visits.  Lab

tests are used to screen clients for blood or body fluid borne illnesses.

Prompt treatment and contacts of an ill person are made if a disease has been

diagnosed.  Contacts of an ill person may choose to be treated at our Health

Center or at other medical providers.  We also offer rabies prevention and

animal bite management.

 

Tuberculosis Screening & Treatment: The Stokes Family Health Center

maintains a tuberculosis Infection Control Program to detect and treat persons

with TB.  In the event of an active case , we will work with the patient’s doctor,

the NC Communicable Disease Branch/TB Control Unit and a regional TB nurse

consultant to provide and monitor treatment and follow-ups.

Our staff is trained in recognizing the signs and symptoms of early TB.  TB testing

is provided to:

· Nursing home residents upon admission

· Incarcerated persons upon entry

· Day care workers

· Health care workers

· The general population upon request. 

Early detection and treatment is essential to prevent the spread of this contagious,

potentially deadly disease.  Treatment of active disease as well as latent TB

infection is free to all residents through our state managed program.

 

STD Screening & Treatment: Here at the Health Center, we provide screening,

treatment and education for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  Same day

or next day assessment of symptoms and prompt treatment is provided.  Visits

are done confidentially and with respect.  Clients are educated about the

prevention of exposure to STDs. Appointments are available after school hours to reach the school age teen. Screening and treatment of STDs are free to both men and women. 

 

HIV/AIDS Testing & Counseling: The Stokes Family Health Center offers free

confidential testing and pre-and post-test counseling.  Also, we can make immediate

referrals to a medical AIDS treatment center for HIV positive patients. There are

trained professionals that can provide confidential testing and counseling.
