Community Data

Stokes County is a rural community located approximately 30 miles outside the city of Winston-Salem, NC.  Stokes County is surrounded by Forsyth, Surry and Rockingham Counties.  In 2007, the county had a estimated population of 46,329. In 2006, the county had 94.2% white residents and 4.7% minority residents.  Of those numbers, 14.1% of the population were age 65 and older and 28% were from ages 0-18.

The community health assessment is conducted every four years to identify county health concerns and took place in August 2008.  We will have the most recent data from the community assessment after it is processed.

The community health assessment provides quantitative data, but the community’s input from the surveys and focus groups is constantly needed for program development and community health interventions.  It is essential to determine what the community identifies as health concerns in order to truly improve the health of the community.
