The Stokes County Local Emergency Planning Committee
(LEPC) is organized under the auspices of the Stokes County Board of
County Commissioners, and its activities are in accordance with, but are not limited to Title III of the
Superfund amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA). The LEPC is made
up of representatives from different disciplines or
responsibilities in the community; including health, fire, industry, members of the
public, and public safety. Since the committee represents every component of
the community, it’s primary role is to assure that the community has effective plans to
deal with hazardous chemical emergencies and to establish subcommittees to
address bio-terrorism, hazard mitigation, Emergency Medical Service System
planning and other emergency related specific tasks that will meet the needs of
the citizens of Stokes County. Subcommittees of the LEPC include: · Bio-terrorism Task Force · Hazard Mitigation Planning Group · EMS System Planning Team · Emergency Operations Update Planning Team |
