Stokes County DSS strives to provide preventative and supportive services with competence and compassion. We are committed to protect our most vulnerable citizens (children, older adults, & disabled) from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.  Our services reach all areas of our county and we strive to assist families in obtaining knowledge, skills, and the support needed to remain or become strong, healthy, and self reliant.

Have a Heart for Children?

Seeking Foster & Adoptive Families for our Fall Session

Have you considered becoming a

foster family or adopting a child

that has entered the Foster Care

In 2016, Stokes County had over

130 children that entered the court

system due to experiencing child

abuse, neglect or dependency by a parent or guardian.

There is a great need for families that are willing and able to take in children through the foster care system. The 2014 national statistics reflect 46% of children that could not return home to their parents or extended family members, were adopted by their foster family.

Stokes County Department of Social Services offers
pre-service training, prepares and submits your license to foster children and prepares your Pre-Placement Assessment for adoption at no cost.  Children placed in your home receive a stipend to provide for their needs.

We value our dedicated and committed
foster families and see them as an
essential piece to our foster care team.
                                 We look forward to having
