The Board of Commissioners of the
County of Stokes, State of North Carolina, met
for a
recessed meeting (recessed from the June 12th meeting) (following
the budget work
session)
in the Commissioners’ Chambers of the Ronald Wilson Reagan Memorial Building
(Administrative
Building) located in Danbury, North Carolina on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at
8:15 pm
with the following members present:

Chairman Leon Inman called the recessed meeting to order.
CLOSED SESSION
Chairman Inman entertained a motion to enter into closed
session for the following:

To consider the initial employment or
appointment of an individual to any office or position, other than a vacancy in
the Board of County Commissioners or any other public body, or to consider the
qualifications, competence, character, and fitness of any public officer or
employee, other than a member of the Board of Commissioners or of some other
public body pursuant to G.S. 143-318.11(6)
Vice Chairman Joe Turpin
moved to enter into closed session for the following:

seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The Board re-entered to
the recessed meeting of June 13, 2006.
GENERAL GOVERNMENT – LEGAL – COUNTY ATTORNEY
Commissioner John Turpin moved to retain the
services of the law offices
of Melvin & Powell
represented by Edward L. Powell, Esquire as of June 15, 2006 for
Stokes County and to retain said
law firm as County Attorney as of July 1, 2006 and
approve this contact for legal
services contingent upon approval of County Attorney
Jonathan Jordan. Vice Chairman Joe Turpin seconded and the
motion carried
unanimously.(copy of contract
retained by Clerk to the Board)
GENERAL GOVERNMENT – GOVERNING BODY – PROPOSED
FISCAL YEAR
2006-07 COUNTY BUDGET
Chairman
Inman requested Board members to highlight items in the proposed
County Budget that each Board
member would like to begin discussing in detail at
the next budget session (June 14th).
There being no further business to come before the Board,
Chairman Inman
entertained a motion to
adjourn the recessed session.
Commissioner John Turpin moved to
adjourn the recessed
session. Vice Chairman Joe Turpin
seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.
