The Board of Commissioners of the County of Stokes, State of North Carolina, met for continuation of the Board Retreat in the Council Chambers of the Ronald Wilson Reagan Memorial Building (Administrative Building), located in Danbury, North Carolina, on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 6:00 pm with the following members present:

                                                                Vice-Chairman Leon Inman

Commissioner Sandy McHugh

Commissioner Joe Turpin

                                                                Commissioner Jimmy Walker

                                                               

                                                                County Personnel in Attendance:

                                                                County Manager Richard Morris

                                                                Clerk to the Board Darlene Bullins

Chairman John Turpin called the Board Retreat to order.

               

Commissioner Walker delivered the invocation.

 

GENERAL GOVERNMENT-GOVERNING BODY-PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

 

Chairman John Turpin opened the meeting by inviting the citizens in attendance to join the Board with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Environmental Health

Mapping/GIS

Planning and Zoning

Procurement

Public Building

Register of Deeds

Senior Services

Soil and Water Conservation

Solid Waste

Tax Administration

Vehicle Maintenance

Health Insurance concerns

Roads and bridges in Stokes County

Five-year budget projections

Bringing jobs to Stokes County

Continued discussion on schools

No interest loans for Schools

Infrastructure within the County

 

 

TOP FIVE PRIORITY GOALS

 

The Board continued discussion concerning the top priority goals for Stokes County.

 

The Board prioritized their top five goals for the County as follows:

 

Schools

No new taxes

Economic Development/tourism

County wide health care issues

Improve Infrastructure – connectivity-water, sewer, gas, high speed internet, etc.

 

 

There being no further business to come before the Board, Chairman John Turpin entertained a motion to adjourn the meeting.

 

Commissioner McHugh moved to adjourn the meeting.   

 

Commissioner Joe Turpin  seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
