The Board of Commissioners of the County of Stokes, State of North Carolina, met in regular session in Courtroom

 “A” Government Center Complex, located in Danbury, North Carolina, on Monday, June 9, 2003, at 7:00 pm with

Chairman McHugh called the meeting to order and delivered the invocation.

Chairman McHugh opened the meeting by inviting the citizens in attendance to join the Board with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chairman McHugh called the Public Hearing for the Fiscal Year 2003-04 Proposed County Budget to order.

 

Chairman McHugh spoke to the audiences concerning the Public Hearing for the Proposed Fiscal Year 2003-04 County Budget

GENERAL GOVERNMENT –SOLID WASTE-SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT THREE YEAR UPDATE

 

Public Works Director Jay Kinney presented an overview of the plan, which is prepared in accordance with NC General Statue

130-A309.09A (b) for the purpose of meeting local solid waste needs and protecting public health and the environment.

 

           Director Kinney noted the following planning area goals:

 

1.      To provide everyone in the community with waste disposal capacity,

waste collection services, and waste reduction opportunities.

2.      To increase the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the solid waste

program.

3.      To meet the established local waste reduction goals.

4.      To decrease improper waste disposal.

5.      To protect public health and the environment.

 

Solid Waste Management Plan for Stokes County (July 2003- July 2013) maintained in Public Buildings’ Department and

Clerk to the Board’s office.

Finance Director Julia Edwards requested the approval of Budget Amendment #82, which is necessary to appropriate fund for

insurance claim for accident.

GENERAL GOVERNMENT-GOVERNING BODY – APPOINTMENT   CHILD FATALITY PREVENTION TEAM

 

Vice Chairman John Turpin moved to approve the appointment of Donna Wishon to serve on the Child Fatality

Prevention Team. 

 

Commissioner Mabe seconded and the motion carried unanimously.  

 

GENERAL GOVERNMENT-GOVERNING BODY - APPOINTMENT NORTHEAST STOKES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT.

–LOCAL FIREMEN’S RELIEF FUND BOARD OF TRUSTEES

 

Commissioner Mabe moved to approve the  appointment of Crystal Dodson to serve on Northeast Stokes Volunteer Fire

Department Rescue Squad Inc. –Local Firemen’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees. 

 

Commissioner Joe Turpin seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

 

There being no further business to come before the Board, Commissioner Mabe moved to recess the meeting until Wednesday,

June 11, 2003 at 6:00pm. 

 

Commissioner Inman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
